Waste Audits
General Waste Audit
Blue Planet preforms general waste audits which allows our
clients a simple, yet independent and objective view of their
waste and recycling program, it's performance, and
successes. We review all available data, and physically
measure the Audit Building's waste and recycling steams
to report on the current Waste Diversion and Recycling rates.
LEED GAP Analysis Waste Audit
Blue Planet performs LEED GAP Analysis Audits in connection with our LEED Compliant Waste Audits (LEED M&R Credit 6).
Our GAP Analysis Audit is conducted prior to the beginning of the Audit Building's LEED review period and allows our client an in-depth, independent and objective view of their waste and recycling program's current successes, including their current Waste Diversion and Recycling Rates. We also included recommendations and if requested assistance, with implementing our recommendations.
LEED Compliant Waste Audit (M&R Credit 6)
Blue Planet conducts it's Waste Audit and Assessment surveys and drafts the resulting Waste Audit Report in accordance with the US Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
As outlined in the USGBC LEED Reference Guide, Blue Planet uses the weight method for calculating a building's total waste stream, diversion and recycling rates. Blue Planet takes into consideration each building's entire waste stream, including all waste being directed to a landfill, incinerator (waste-to-energy or other type of incinerator), or recycling facility, and also includes any items or materials that may leave the building or are otherwise reused. Blue Planet manually separates all the various waste types to determine the weight, and volume that each separate waste stream produced within each building; and collects all relevant data from the various service providers.
During our waste audit we take several steps to complete the waste audit, including:
a. Determining the best appropriate unit of measurement for the waste stream audit, either volume, weight, or both, and use the appropriate method throughout the waste audit process;
b. Determining the appropriate waste categories for the audit, relative to the building's or portfolio's, total waste streams; and
c. Performing the waste audit at a time that best represents the building's total waste stream, and we may perform several visits to a building to ensure accurate reporting.
